Supreme Court rejects San Jose appeal to move Oakland A’s to city
San Jose will not be able to pursue a bid to bring the Oakland Athletics to the city, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, according to the Associated Press.
The justices rejected the city’s appeal on an antitrust lawsuit against Major League Baseball, which was initially blocked by a Santa Clara County court in May.
San Jose, which is 40 miles south of Oakland, sued MLB in June 2013 for attempting to block a potential move of the A’s out of Oakland. San Jose is part of Santa Clara County, which MLB deems to be part of the San Francisco Giants’ territory.
The A’s are currently looking for options to replace their long-time home in the O.co Coliseum. The team is considering building a new stadium on the site of the Coliseum that would not include their current co-tenant, the Oakland Raiders.
