The Seattle Mariners have acquired outfielder Leonys Martin and pitcher Anthony Bass from the Texas Rangers in exchange for reliever Tom Wilhelmsen, outfielder James Jones, and a player to be named later, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan.

Martin, 27, is coming off a down season with the Rangers; he hit .219 in 95 games with five home runs, 25 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. He had hit a combined .270 in his previous two seasons. A big reason for the deal may be the success ofDelinoDeShields, Jr., who hit .261 in 121 games with 83 runs scored and 25 stolen bases.

Wilhelmsen has spent his entire five-year career with the Mariners, posting a 2.97 ERA in 312 1/3 innings, with 67 saves.

Bass is an arm that can be of use in the Mariners’ bullpen in the wake of dealing Wilhelmsen.
