Former MLB closer Takashi Saito will work as an intern in the San Diego Padres’ front office, reports Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Padres executive Logan White has ties to Saito back to his days as the Los Angeles Dodgers scouting director, where he was instrumental in signing the then-36-year-old from Japan.
Saito played with five teams over seven seasons in the Majors. He was an effective reliever, posting a 21–15 record with a 2.34 ERA and 84 saves in his career. Saito’s best season came with the Dodgers in 2007, when he tallied 39 saves with a 1.40 ERA.
Saito retired after struggling to stay healthy this season with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Nippon Professional Baseball League.
