The Chicago Cubs have signed reliever Jean Machi to a minor league contract, reports Aaron Gleeman of NBC Sports.

Machi, 33, made his major league debut in 2012 for the San Francisco Giants after signing with the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent in 2000. He spent three and a half seasons with the Giants before being claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox last season.

In career 184 innings, Machi has a 3.47 ERA with 148 strikeouts. He struggled last season with an ERA of 5.12 in 59 appearances with the Giants and the Red Sox.
