WASHINGTON (AP) Catcher Wilson Ramos and the Washington Nationals have avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to terms on a $5.35 million, one-year contract.

The 28-year-old Ramos hit .229 last season in a career-high 475 at-bats, with 15 homers, 68 RBIs and 101 strikeouts. He earned $3.55 million.

The team announced that it reached a 2016 agreement with Ramos on Wednesday. Ramos was among five Nationals players to file for arbitration on Tuesday, along with pitcher Stephen Strasburg, infielders Anthony Rendon and Danny Espinosa and outfielder Ben Revere.

Ramos can become a free agent after next season. In parts of six major league seasons, he has a .258 batting average, with 61 homers and 241 RBIs.
