Police report: Delmon Young arrested after assaulting valet
Free-agent outfielder Delmon Young was arrested and charged with battery after he choked and threatened to kill a valet attendant on Sunday night in Miami, reports Local10.com. NBC’s HardballTalk confirmed the report.
According to a police report, Young grabbed the attendant’s neck and began to choke him after the attendant did not allow him into an elevator to a club at the Brickell hotel. The report also stated that Young yelled racial slurs at the attendant. Police then went to Young’s residence, where according the the report he “was unsteady on his feet and spoke with slurred speech.”
This isn't Young's first brush with the law. In 2012, he was arrested after he allegedly pushed a man to the ground outside of a New York hotel; according to a police report, Young also yelled an anti-Semitic slur at the victim. Young, then with the Detroit Tigers, was suspended seven days by MLB for his actions and ultimately pled guilty to a count of aggravated harassment, receiving a sentence of 10 days of community service.
Young, 30, has spent the last two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. In 2015, he hit .270 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 52 games and was released by the team on July 9. The No. 1 pick of the 2003 draft, Young has played for five teams over 10 seasons.
