Blue Jays agree to two-year deal with Josh Donaldson
The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a two-year deal with third baseman Josh Donaldson, the team announced Wednesday.
The contract, which avoided a Feb. 15 arbitration hearing, is worth $29 million Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.
The deal bought out Donaldson’s second and third years of arbitration. He is not eligible for free agency until after the 2018 season.
The 30-year-old Donaldson is the American League’s reigning MVP. In 2015, his first season in Toronto, Donaldson posted a .297 batting average with 41 home runs and a league-best 123 RBIs.
A two-time All-Star, Donaldson made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics in 2010.
