ESPN says it is ‘addressing’ Curt Schilling’s Hillary Clinton comments
ESPN says it is looking into comments made by baseball analyst Curt Schilling about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
During an interview on a Kansas City radio station Tuesday, Schilling said Clinton should be “buried under a jail somewhere,” in reference to Clinton’s email scandal.
“I hope she does [go to jail],” Schilling said. “If I’m gonna believe, and I don’t have any reason not to believe, that she gave classified information on hundreds if not thousands of emails on a public server after what happened to General Petraeus, she should buried under a jail somewhere.”
“We are addressing it,” ESPN told CNN’s Frank Pallotta on Wednesday.
In January, ESPN sent a memo to its employees urging them not to comment on the presidential race.
Schilling’s political beliefs have gotten him in trouble before. Last August, he was removed from ESPN broadcasts after sending a tweet comparing Muslims to Nazi-era Germans. In November 2014 he engaged in a lengthy argument with Twitter users debating the theory of evolution. When his ESPN colleague Keith Law confronted Schilling with the overwhelming scientific evidence in support of the theory, the network suspended Law from Twitter.
In September, Schilling donated $250 to the campaign of Republican Ben Carson, who effectively dropped out of the race Wednesday. Schilling has said that he believes his politics have cost him Hall of Fame votes.
After working on the network’s flagship Sunday night broadcasts last season, Schilling will be a part of Monday Night Baseball this season.
