The Cincinnati Reds retired former player and manager Pete Rose’s No. 14 on Sunday, the final gesture in the three-day celebration of baseball’s all-time hits leader.

The Reds’ tribute to Rose started Friday with the entire 1976 World Series championship team being honored. Rose was officially inducted to the Cincinnati Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The entire event had to be approved by the MLB due to Rose’s lifetime ban from the game for betting on his team.

“It is our salute to that person whose impact transcends their lifetime and spares any future player the impossible task of living up to a legacy too large to fill,” Reds CEO Bob Castellini said during the number retirement.

The ceremony ended with Pete Rose Jr. throwing the ceremonial first pitch to his father.

Rose was also presented with a glass sculpture depicting his 4,192nd hit and a painting showing his famous headfirst slide.

Rose is the 10th player to have his number retired by the Reds.
