Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained upper back, retroactive to June 16, reports Dan Kolko of MASN.

The Nationals scratched Strasburg from his scheduled start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. He also missed his last start on Monday against the Dodgers after suffering a rib injury weightlifting.

"It was some kind of freak thing that must have gone on in the weight room," Strasburg said via MLB.com. "I really don't know why. It kind of threw everything out of sync."

Strasburg has been the ace of the National’s rotation this season, posting a 10–0 record and 2.90 ERA in 14 starts.
