Tampa Bay Rays utility player Taylor Motter, the only Coastal Carolina player on an active MLB roster, emphatically celebrated his alma mater winning the College World Series during practice Thursday.

While his teammates warmed up in the outfield at Tropicana Field, Motter nervously watched on the jumbotron as the Chanticleers attempted to hold on to a 4–3 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning.

As Coastal Carolina junior Alex Cunningham struck out Arizona’s Ryan Haug to end the game, Motter let out a cheer, before ripping his sweatshirt off and revealing a teal CCU shirt.

Coastal Carolina won two straight games after dropping game one to Arizona to claim the first national championship in any sport for the school.
