Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy hit a pinch-hit, game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send his team’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates into extras. Pittsburgh eventually won 2–1 in 18 innings.

Murphy was out of the starting lineup up for the third-straight game due to a hamstring injury, but was called upon with two outs in the ninth to help the National cut into a 1–0 deficit.

The 2016 All-Star did just that, crushing a line-drive shot to right field on a 2–2 count.

Before the game, Washington general manager Mike Rizzo said that Murphy is 100% and was kept out of the lineup as a precaution.

Murphy is expected to start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
