The Mets have placed starter Steven Matz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 15, due to a mild left shoulder strain.

According to James Wagner of the The New York Times, Matz’s examination revealed no structural damage.

Matz last pitched on Sunday, Aug. 14, tossing 7 1/3 shutout innings and allowing just one hit. He was then scratched from his next start on Thursday against the Giants and sent to New York for an exam.

The Mets will need to find a starter for Thursday’s game at St. Louis, where the rookie lefthander was set to pitch.

In 22 starts, Matz is 9–8 with a 3.40 ERA over 132 1/3 innings.
