Javier Baez belted a solo home run off Johnny Cueto in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Cubs a 1–0 lead in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

Cueto and Cubs starter Jon Lester were locked in a scoreless pitchers duel through the first eighth innings. Chicago closer Aroldis Chapman then closed the game out in the bottom of the ninth after Baez’s homer.
