The Mets have a fever and the only prescription is more Cowgill

The Mets jumped all over the Padres' pitcher in their season opener, bouncing San Diego starter Edinson Volquez in the fourth inning and rolling to an 11-2 win. The last four runs came on a grand slam by outfielder Collin Cowgill, just the third major league home run of Cowgill's career in 221 major league plate appearances. Cowgill came over from the A's in a minor trade in December then won the centerfield job by hitting .303/.378/.591 with five home runs in camp, proving to team management that he can handle righthanded pitching. Despite his meager power display at the big league level, Cowgill did hit 16 home runs in Double-A in 2010, so there's clearly a bit of pop in his bat that he hasn't shown yet at the major league level. Or hadn't until he did this.
