Watch: Evan Gattis hits longest home run of 2013 season

Pity Evan Gattis. Given the performances of Jose Fernandez and Yasiel Puig, as well as his own injuries and struggles for paying time in the wake of Brian McCann's return from the disabled list, the Braves' catcher has become an afterthought in the race for NL Rookie of the Year. But just in case you forgot he was around, Gattis hit the longest home run of the 2013 season off the Phillies' Cole Hamels on Sunday, blasting a 1-0 fastball onto the concourse in dead center at Citizens Bank Park in the second inning.

Gattis's shot was estimated at 486 feet, 10 feet longer than Hunter Pence's thin-air blast two weeks ago. It was also the longest home run in the 10-year history of Citizens Bank Park. For good measure, Gattis, who has started the last five games in leftfield for the Braves, hit another 400-foot blast off Hamels in the seventh. That gave him 18 home runs for the year and pushed him past the Padres' Jedd Gyorko for the major league rookie lead.
