Aroldis Chapman shares photo of his staple-filled head post-surgery

Aroldis Chapman had surgery today to insert a metal plate into his face after suffering multiple fractures from a line drive to the face Wednesday night. The Reds' closer is expected to make a full recovery from the injury, though the broken bones will keep him off a mound for at least the next six weeks.

Nonetheless, Chapman escaped more serious injury (aside from the fractures, he also suffered a mild concussion, but avoided brain and eye damage), and apparently is feeling good enough to share a photo of himself from after his two-and-a-half hour surgery, which you can find below. Warning: He got a lot of staples put into his head. Like, a lot a lot.

Chapman posted that photo on his Instagram account, along with a message to his fans in Spanish: "My people: All is good, thank God. We've escaped problems. I'm here waiting for them to give me the go-ahead."

Chapman will likely miss the first month or two of the season, but Cincinnati needs him back soon. The Reds announced earlier Friday that relievers Jonathan Broxton and Sean Marshall would also start the year on the disabled list, leaving Cincinnati's bullpen perilously thin.
