Watch: Jeff Baker hits walk-off double off Yasiel Puig's face as Marlins edge Dodgers

Yasiel Puig put his body on the line with the game on the line, but he ultimately took the worst of Jeff Baker's walk-off double to cap the Marlins' 5-4 win over the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

It was a thrilling game before the bottom of the ninth. The Marlins took the lead three times, twice on Giancarlo Stanton home runs. The Dodgers tied it up all three times, twice by staging two-out rallies against Jose Fernandez. The third time, the Marlins led 4-3 in the top of the ninth, but it took L.A. just two batters to pull even yet again as pinch-hitter Chone Figgins walked against Miami right-hander A.J. Ramos and scored on Andre Ethier's subsequent double.

Despite facing the top of the Dodger order, Ramos was able to strand Ethier at second, sending the game to the bottom of the ninth tied 4-4, where Dodgers righty Jamey Wright entered his second inning of work. Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria opened the frame by singling on an 0-2 pitch to put the leadoff man on base. Two pitches later, he was on third base thanks to a sacrifice bunt by pinch-hitter Donovan Solano and a productive groundout by leadoff man Christian Yelich, who had homered earlier in the game. That brought up Jeff Baker, who had pinch-hit with Hechavarria on third in the seventh only to ground into a fielder's choice on the first pitch he saw, as Hechavarria was thrown out at home.

This time, Baker took the first pitch for a ball, then crushed a cutter out over the plate the opposite way. Yasiel Puig raced to the right-field wall and attempted a leaping catch, but the ball missed his glove and caromed off the wall and into his left temple, allowing Hechavarria to scamper home with the winning run as Puig and the ball dropped to the ground.

Puig, who also appeared to hurt his left ankle on the way down, was attended to by Dodgers trainer Stan Conte in left field and walked off the field with his arm around Conte at least in part for support. However, a post-game concussion test was negative. The Dodgers say he is day-to-day.

As for Miami, the win put the Marlins back over .500. They are now 5-1 on their current nine-game home stand, having taken a pair of series from 2013 playoff teams with a sweep of the Braves before taking two of three from the Dodgers. They are now 14-5 at home on the season with 6.2 runs scored per game, compared to 2-10 on the road with 2.7 runs scored per game, a discrepancy which had the Braves asking questions about sign-stealing earlier in the week, though they admitted they could detect no such efforts on the Marlins' part. The Braves have since been swept at home by the Giants. Next up for Miami are the Mets, who dropped the first three of their four games in Colorado.
