Nolan Arenado is halfway to 56.

The Rockies' third baseman broke a team record by stretching his hitting streak to 28 games in Colorado’s 5-0 loss to the Rangers on Thursday night. Arenado hit a two-out single in his second at-bat in the third inning off Matt Harrison.

Arenado broke Michael Cuddyer’s Rockies record of 27, set last season, and matched the longest hitting streak of 2013, set last year by Denard Span. The streak is the longest of any player 23 or younger since Albert Pujols’ 30-game streak in 2003, and is exactly halfway to Joe DiMaggio’s 1941 record 56-game hit streak.

On Friday, Arenado and the Rockies will face one of the hottest pitchers in the game in Cincinnati’s Johnny Cueto when Colorado begins a three game series against the Reds on Friday.
