White Sox' Jose Abreu returns from DL, takes Clayton Kershaw deep

Jose Abreu didn't return to the White Sox without a last-minute scare that nearly prolonged his absence after a stint on the 15-day DL. During batting practice on Monday in Los Angeles, an errant throw hit him in the chest and he had to return to the clubhouse for a quick examination. Luckily for the White Sox, Abreu was fine, and was able to get back in the lineup for the matchup with Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers' ace lefty probably wishes Abreu had to sit just one more night.

Kershaw mowed down the White Sox his first time through the lineup, retiring the first 10 batters on just 24 pitches. He then allowed a single to Gordon Beckham, bringing the slugging first baseman Abreu to the plate. An 0-1 slider from Kershaw hung above the belt and got far too much of the plate, and Abreu didn't miss it.

In case the homer off one of the best pitchers in the league wasn't evidence enough, Hawk Harrelson made sure to drive home the point that Abreu is indeed back. It was his 16th bomb in just more than 190 plate appearances this year.
