Baseball fans, be they supporters of the Pirates or any of the 29 other teams in MLB, have been clamoring to see Pittsburgh outfield prospect Gregory Polanco ascend to the majors. With the Super Two deadline comfortably in the past, the Pirates' front office finally obliged, promoting Polanco on Tuesday. Still, as happy as the entire baseball world was, this ovation suggests that Pirates fans were the most grateful of all.

Polanco started in right and batted second for the Pirates in their game against the Cubs and lefty starter Travis Wood. He popped out to Starlin Castro in his first at-bat, but collected his first hit his next time at the plate, a solid line-drive single to left field.

Andrew McCutchen followed up with a two-run homer in what could be the first of many 1-2 punches from the outfield duo. Polanco had some adventures in right field, dropping an Anthony Rizzo fly ball he could have caught at the wall, though the official scorer ruled it a double. We're pretty sure it's safe to say Clint Hurdle will give him a mulligan on that one and have him back in the lineup on Wednesday.
