Alexandre "Pequeno" Nogueira has allegedly tested positive for the anabolic agent Boldenone according to California State Athletic Commission representative Bill Douglas.

The results stem from a drug test administered following his World Extreme Cagefighting debut against Jose Aldo on June 1 in Sacramento, Calif. He lost the fight by way of TKO in the second round. A statement from Douglas indicated that Nogueira's 'A' Sample was tested at Quest Diagnostics and his 'B' Sample was tested at Laboratoire de controle du dopage in Laval, Quebec, Canada (a WADA certified test facility)" in determining the positive result.

The CSAC has suspended Nogueira from the conclusion of the bout on June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. His penalty also includes a $2,500 fine.

Boldenone is an anabolic steroid commonly used in veterinary medicine for treating horses. Nogueira is not the first mixed martial artist to test positive for Boldenone though. Other fighters that have been suspended for positive test results in association with the steroid include Stephan Bonnar, Kit Cope and Phil Baroni.
