Wednesday night scouting report

Giving you a rundown on the top three games (and a few bonus contests) on tonight's college basketball slate:

1. No. 17 Wisconsin (12-2, 2-0 Big Ten) at No 10 Michigan State (11-3, 1-0), 6:30 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network

The point guard matchup will be one to track, with Wisconsin senior Trevon Hughes carrying on the Badgers' recent tradition of solid point men against reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Kalin Lucas. The Michigan State junior has had some issues with coach Tom Izzo this season, but he has scored double figures in every game and had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists in the Spartans' conference-opening win over Northwestern. These two teams, along with Purdue, figure to be on top of the conference standings all season.

2. Cornell (12-2) at No. 1 Kansas (13-0), 8 p.m. ET

Boring blowout? Perhaps, but Cornell is not your typical Ivy League squad. Five starters return from last season's 20-10 team that was seeded No. 14 in the NCAA tournament and lost by 19 to Missouri. Senior Ryan Wittman is averaging 18.9 points per game, including a 34-point effort in a win at La Salle, and seven-footer Jeff Foote (14 ppg) should be able to body up on KU big man Cole Aldrich. The Big Red are 2-2 vs. BCS teams, beating Alabama and St. John's while losing to Seton Hall and Syracuse. Kansas, meanwhile, is rolling after a 32-point win at Temple and has beaten every opponent but one by at least 11 points. Kansas will likely extend its Allen Fieldhouse win streak to 51, but the Big Red should make the Jayhawks work.

3. No. 5 Duke (12-1, 1-0 ACC) vs. Iowa State (10-3) in Chicago, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2

There will be 18 NBA scouts on hand for this one, and the main attraction will not be wearing Duke blue. Iowa State forward Craig Brackins is a potential first-round pick next June and will get to show off in an NBA arena against Duke's talented big man Kyle Singler. Brackins is averaging 17.4 points and 8.3 rebounds, but his signature game came last year against Kansas when he put up 42 and 14 in a loss in Des Moines. SI.com's Luke Winn has Duke in the national championship discussion because of its defense, plus senior Jon Scheyer has been brilliant while playing somewhat out of position at point guard, averaging 18.8 points and 4.9 assists.

No. 12 Georgetown (11-1, 2-0 Big East) at Marquette (9-5, 0-2), 8 p.m. ET

Marquette has given West Virginia and Villanova big scares in its first two Big East games, but lost by one and two. This is Georgetown's first road game against a team with a winning record.

Charlotte (10-3) at No. 16 Tennessee (10-2), 7 p.m. ET

The Vols play their first game since losing four players to drug and gun charges, including All-SEC forward Tyler Smith. Charlotte caught Louisville shorthanded in early December and gave the Cardinals a 22-point thumping.
