U.S.'s Gracie Gold currently second at junior figure skating worlds

MINSK, Belarus (AP) -- Thirteen-year-old Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia led after the women's short program at the world junior figure skating championships Friday. Gracie Gold of the U.S. was second.

The 13-year-old Lipnitskaia earned 63.09 points for a double axel, triple toe-triple toe, triple lutz and excellent spins. Gold had 58 points and Adelina Sotnikova of Russia was third at 56.57.

The free skate for men and women is Saturday.

Russians danced to a 1-2 finish, with Victoria Sinitsina and Ruslan Zhiganshin earning the gold medal and Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin the silver. Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton of the U.S. won the bronze. All three teams were making their junior worlds debut.

Sinitsina and Zhiganshin also won the Junior Grand Prix Final this season.
