Olympic champ Tora Berger wins individual world biathlon title

RUHPOLDING, Germany (AP) -- Olympic champion Tora Berger of Norway won the individual event at the biathlon world championships on Wednesday

Berger recovered from missing the target in her opening round to complete the 15-kilometer course in 42 minutes, 30 seconds. Marie Laure Brunet of France finished 56.4 seconds behind, and a chance of winning gold was dashed when she missed her final shot.

Helena Ekholm of Sweden claimed the bronze, with one missed target.

Poor shooting plagued pursuit champion Darya Domracheva of Belarus and Magdalena Neuner of Germany.

Neuner was aiming for a fourth championship medal, but missed six times.
