The New York Liberty will be without Janel McCarville again this season, as the veteran center has announced she will sit out for the second straight year.

McCarville was placed on the suspended list last season after she failed to report to training camp. New York retained her rights, and Liberty coach and general manager John Whisenant visited her this winter in Italy, where she is playing for Familia Schio.

However, she decided to rest this summer as well.

"While I love the Liberty and the WNBA, I've decided to sit out the 2012 season to spend more time with my family," McCarville said in a statement released by the team Monday. "I sincerely appreciated and enjoyed the time that Coach Whiz spent with me in Italy earlier this year, and it has been great to hear from so many Liberty fans encouraging my return. I wish the team nothing but the best in its quest for a WNBA championship."

McCarville averaged 8.8 points and a career-high 5.9 rebounds in 2010. She has career averages of 8.7 points and 4.7 boards in 187 games for Charlotte and New York.

The Liberty continue to retain her WNBA rights.
