Frankel wins Sussex Stakes, extends unbeaten record to 12 races

GOODWOOD, England (AP) -- Frankel has extended his unbeaten record to 12 with an impressive victory in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

A crowd of 25,000 saw Frankel take control early on and then extend his lead in the stretch in Wednesday's one-mile race.

Frankel, owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, was the 1-20 favorite in a field of four. Frankel's second Sussex Stakes win was worth $468,000.

Jockey Tom Queally says "every moment spent on his back is a special moment and today was no different."

Winning trainer Henry Cecil was not at the race. He is undergoing cancer treatment.

Frankel's next start is scheduled to be in the Juddmonte International at York on Aug. 22.
