Webster, Wizards agree to deal

Free agent small forward Martell Webster has agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the Washington Wizards, a source told

Webster, a seven-year veteran who was taken sixth overall by Portland in 2005, was cut by the Timberwolves in mid-July in order to make salary cap room for the offer sheet given to the Blazers' Nicolas Batum that was matched by Portland. He was set to earn $5.7 million this season, but Minnesota exercised its option of buying him out for $600,000 as it pursued Batum to no avail.

Webster is coming off a down season in which he battled back issues and averaged 6.9 points in 24.3 minutes while shooting a career-low 33.9 percent from three-point range. He has averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds over his career while shooting 41.4 percent overall and 37.4 percent from three-point range. first reported that Webster had agreed to join the Wizards.
