Auburn has hired Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn as its new head coach, according to a source.

Malzahn, 47, replaces fired Tigers coach Gene Chizik. Malzahn was Chizik's offensive coordinator for three seasons, including Auburn's undefeated national championship season in 2010 behind Heisman Trophy quarterback Cam Newton. Malzahn is well known for his fast-paced, no-huddle offensive philosophy.

This season was Malzahn's first at Arkansas State and as a college head coach. His Red Wolves (9-3) won the Sun Belt Conference and will play in the GoDaddy.com bowl on Jan. 6.
