Four-star safety Tahaan Goodman commits to UCLA

Safety Tahaan Goodman was a defensive standout at this month's U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

UCLA supporters probably got a hint when they walked into a gymnasium decorated with blue and yellow balloons. Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) safety Tahaan Goodman had been linked to LSU, Oklahoma and even Texas A&M, but those destinations were awfully far away. When it came time to make a decision, Goodman wanted to stay local.

One of the most promising safety prospects in the class of 2013, Goodman committed to UCLA over USC and Oklahoma on Wednesday afternoon, ending a whirlwind recruitment for the big, physical defensive back. Goodman was one of several Division I prospects to come out of Rancho Cucamonga, a school that also featured touted defensive back prospect Chris Hawkins, who is currently committed to USC.

Goodman is listed as a four-star prospect by each of the major recruiting services, and he was recently tabbed as California's fourth-best player, according to Rivals.com. The future Bruin was recently ranked as the nation's No. 80 overall recruit the final Rivals100.

Coach Jim Mora continues an impressive January surge for his recruiting class. UCLA also picked up commitments from four-star defensive backs Johnny Johnson of Fresno, Calif., and Tyler Foreman of Encino, Calif. With the addition of Goodman, the Bruins have now reeled in 14 four-star commitments.
