Yanks discussing Manny in pinstripes?

While even the source of the report downplayed it afterward, it does make for interesting grist for the holiday mill. Manny Ramirez in pinstripes? Say it ain't so! ... Hey, New York would like a right-handed-hitting outfielder, and Ramirez qualifies there, so Yankees execs were merely doing their due diligence in talking amongst themselves about the enigmatic slugger. The second-best comeback player of the year is ...

The Comeback Player of the Year Award doesn't even merit discussion in 2010, which is too bad for Seattle's Mike Williams. Williams had been rescued before, but for it to happen a second time, the former USC All-American and top-10 draft pick had to save himself. After being taken 10th overall in the 2005 draft by the Detroit Lions, Williams caught 44 passes for three different teams over three seasons and was cut by each. He spent the '08 and '09 seasons out pro football completely, taking in far more pounds -- 50 or 60, by some estimates -- than he had passes as a pro. "I just kind of went astray ... I was just lost, sort of, emotionally and couldn't pick myself up," Williams recalled Wednesday. (FanHouse) Comment

James a proponent of contraction?

LeBron had another moment Thursday, an instance where trying to explain his point may have made it worse. The main topic of the Phoenix-Miami game day was Miami's next game, a Christmas showdown at the Los Angeles Lakers that made [James] reminisce that a league of fewer teams featuring more stars on each one was better. ... "Just imagine if you could take Kevin Love off Minnesota and add him to another team," James said. "Or, looking at some of the teams that's not that great, you take Brook Lopez or Devin Harris off these teams that's not that good right now and add them to a team that could be really good. I'm not saying let's take New Jersey, let's take Minnesota out of the league. But, hey, you guys are not stupid. I'm not stupid. I know what would be great for the league."
