Source: Weis interested in Bears job

A source close to Charlie Weis confirmed that the former Notre Dame coach would be interested in the Bears' offensive coordinator position if it were to become available after this season. Ron Turner holds that job with the Bears, though the offense's poor performance and quarterback Jay Cutler's struggles have led to speculation that the Bears will dump Turner. Dodgers shopping Sherrill

The Dodgers have a number of young relief pitchers coveted by other teams, including Ronald Belisario, Hong-Chih Kuo and Ramon Troncoso. But when teams have inquired about those relievers, according to one rival executive, they have been encouraged to instead submit proposals for left-hander George Sherrill. It appears that Sherrill is available for two main reasons: He's about to earn a raise (perhaps as high as $4 million) through salary arbitration; and he had a lousy NLCS against the Phillies. The Dodgers are looking for a starter in exchange for Sherrill. (Fox Sports) Comment

Edsall impresses Irish boosters

Now that the regular season is complete, Notre Dame's search for a new head football coach goes into overdrive with athletic director Jack Swarbuck poised to interview candidates as soon as today. Brian Kelly might have competition from within the Big East Conference. Other sources said that Connecticut's Randy Edsall impressed several Notre Dame boosters with the way he handled the tragic mid-season stabbing death of cornerback Jasper Howard.
