NCAA Football Power Rankings
21Oklahoma Sooners
Last Week: 16
Sorry, Sooners, but I just couldn't bring myself to rank you ahead of Texas A&M so soon after the Aggies thumped you. You've still got loads of talent, and you can still win the Big 12 South and possibly the entire conference. But you're going to have to put it all together soon.
Last game: Lost to Texas A&M, 33-19
Next game: Saturday vs. Texas Tech

22Baylor Bears
Last Week: 22
The Bears allowed 725 yards in a loss at Oklahoma State, so I expect plenty of complaints from folks whose three-loss teams are ranked below Baylor. Listen, folks. It's pretty much a pu-pu platter at this point in the poll. Most of the teams between 23 and 35 could make a claim that they deserve to be here, and I could provide a few reasons why they should and a few reasons why they shouldn't. As for Baylor, the Bears beat Kansas State. So that should eliminate any complaints from the Little Apple or from Central Florida, which lost to Kansas State earlier this season.
Last game: Lost to Oklahoma State, 55-28
Next game: Saturday vs. Texas A&M

23Kansas St. Wildcats
Last Week: --
How good a job has Bill Snyder done in his second time around as Kansas State's head coach? He inherited a moribund program from Ron Prince, and this past weekend the Wildcats returned to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2006 with a thumping of Texas. Kansas State can separate itself from much of the three-loss pack with a win this week at Missouri.
Last game: Beat Texas, 39-14
Next game: Saturday at Missouri

24South Carolina Gamecocks
Last Week: 17
A lot of people in the Palmetto State thought the Chicken Curse died when South Carolina won the College World Series this past summer. Silly, silly people. You can only kill curses with significant accomplishments in one of the two revenue sports. The only way to kill the curse that hangs over South Carolina's program is by winning the SEC East in The Swamp on Saturday. Coach Steve Spurrier knows how to win the division; he did it seven times at Florida. But will the Gamecocks bounce back from a horrific showing against Arkansas to beat a Florida team that seems to have found an offensive identity?
Last game: Lost to Arkansas, 41-20
Next game: Saturday at Florida

25Florida Gators
Last Week: --
The best news for South Carolina came Sunday when Florida's marketing department called for a "Blueout" for Saturday night's meeting with the Gamecocks. As regular readers of the Power Rankings know, the football gods frown on these high-school shenanigans. For proof, Gators coach Urban Meyer can call his Utah successor, Kyle Whittingham, and ask how well that Blackout worked for the Utes against TCU. Fortunately for Florida, Saturday's forecast calls for a low in the upper 40s. As a Florida resident, I know most Floridians own exactly one jacket, and they aren't likely to buy another one to satisfy the whims of their favorite athletic program's marketing department. So the stands at Florida Field probably won't be completely bathed in blue Saturday. But if they are, enjoy your 2010 SEC East championship, Gamecocks.
Last game: Beat Vanderbilt, 55-14
Next game: Saturday vs. South Carolina

Next five: Central Florida, San Diego State, USC, North Carolina, Florida State
