Ducks ascend to top spot, while Tide sink (cont.)

NCAA Football Power Rankings
21Florida Gators
Last Week: 13
Here's a telling quote from Florida center Mike Pouncey: "We knew that we weren't going to be perfect this year, but as long as we get to the SEC championship then we'll be happy," Pouncey told reporters Monday. Pouncey explained that the Gators still control their destiny in terms of winning the SEC East. He's correct, but if Florida players caught any of the South Carolina-Alabama game, they should also realize that another loss before the South Carolina game on Nov. 13 could change that. Given the way the Gators have played in the past two weeks, there are no gimmes between now and then.
Last game: Lost to LSU, 33-29
Next game: Saturday vs. Mississippi State

22Nevada Wolf Pack
Last Week: 22
Hawaii coach Greg McMackin insisted this week that Hawaii's "Kiko" offense is not the same as Nevada's Pistol, even though the biggest change McMackin made was to line up the tailback behind the quarterback in the shotgun. McMackin is correct, though. Nevada's offense relies far more on the run. Hawaii still wants to chuck the ball on most downs. Saturday, we'll see which version is more effective.
Last game: Beat San Jose State, 35-13
Next game: Saturday at Hawaii

23Missouri Tigers
Last Week: --
Missouri celebrated the anniversary of the Fifth Down with a shutout. The Tigers probably won't pull off the same feat this week against Texas A&M, but Missouri should be able to beat the Aggies. That would set up a very interesting meeting between Missouri and Oklahoma in Columbia next week.
Last game: Beat Colorado, 26-0
Next game: Saturday at Texas A&M

24West Virginia Mountaineers
Last Week: 24
From what we've seen in the out-of-conference schedule, West Virginia is the class of the Big East. (We'll pause here and allow fans of other conferences to chuckle.) Now, the Mountaineers have to prove that assertion on the field. South Florida just lost to Syracuse, so West Virginia shouldn't have much trouble kicking off its conference season in style.
Last game: Beat UNLV, 49-10
Next game: Thursday vs. South Florida

25Air Force Falcons
Last Week: --
The Falcons keep chugging along, and that should continue this week. San Diego State has improved under Coach Brady Hoke, but the Aztecs couldn't outscore BYU and its porous defense last week. It'll be even tougher to score when Air Force hogs the ball for 35 minutes. One more week until the Falcons get another crack at influencing the national title picture. After San Diego, Air Force heads to Fort Worth to face TCU.
Last game: Beat Colorado State, 49-27
Next game: Saturday at San Diego State

Next five: Miami, Michigan, USC, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State
