Team USA track and field star Torrin Lawrence was killed on Monday morning after a crash on Interstate 75 near Cordele, GA, Cade Fowler of WALB-TV reports.

The accident occurred when Lawrence's car blew a tire and stopped in the middle of traffic. The car was hit by a semi-truck. Lawrence was thrown from the car on impact.

Fowler reports the driver of the truck was injured, but is expected to be OK.

Lawrence was 25 years old.

Lawrence was member of the University of Georgia's track and field team. He was a seven-time All-American and three-time SEC champion, and he won the NCAA 400-meter championship in 2010.
