Olympic gold medalist and distance runner Mo Farah said he was hospitalized for four days due to an infected tooth and a stomach ailment.

Farah, 31, said he developed an infection after having a tooth removed. He collapsed on his bathroom floor following a training run in Park City, Utah, and had to be airlifted to a hospital.

“I had a tooth taken out and it got infected. I went for a run, came back and collapsed," Farah said, via BBC.com.

Farah, who won the 5,000 and 10,000-meters at the London Olympics in 2012, pulled out of last month's Commonwealth Games, saying he was not fully recovered from an illness. Farah will compete in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events at the European Championships in Zurich this week.

"I did not want to disappoint my fans. I knew people had bought tickets [for the Commonwealth Games], but I wasn't ready," Farah said.
