To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, TIME has produced a series of short documentaries chronicling how New Orleans has recovered from the devastating storm. The full series can be seen here.
On Aug. 29, 2005, the hurricane made landfall in New Orleans. The massive storm surge overwhelmed the city’s flood wall and inundated the city with water. Nearly 1,500 people were killed, most of them in the city’s poorest neighborhoods.

Data from the 2010 census showed that New Orleans' population fell by 140,000 in the five years after the storm, but the city has rebounded as best it could. TIME’s video series documents the strides New Orleanians have made in the past decade.
