High school football player Kenney Bui died Monday following an injury he sustained during a game in Washington on Friday, according to The Seattle Times.
Bui, a 17-year-old senior wide receiver and defensive back at Highline Public School’s Technology, Engineering and Communication high school on the Evergreen campus in Seattle, was hospitalized Friday night after enduring a hard hit in the fourth quarter of his team's homecoming game against Highline High School. The nature of Bui's injury was not released.
The Highline school district has hired a team of social workers and counselors to provide support for students in the aftermath of Bui's tragic death.
“Right now we are just concentrating on supporting the family, the students and the staff who are going through a really difficult time right now,” a spokesperson for the school district said Monday.
Bui is the fourth high school player to die this season from on-field injuries.
