Racist chants directed at Wisconsin high school soccer team
Racial slurs and chants that included “Donald Trump, build that wall” were yelled at a Wisconsin high school girls match over the weekend, according to Channel 3000.
At the end of Elkhorn High School’s 5–0 victory over Beloit Memorial, the racial chants were yelled at the mostly African-American and Latina players.
“They came off the field and weren’t able to finish the game because they were too upset and distraught over what happened to them,” coach Brian Denu told Channel 3000. “One of the girls was cradled in the arms of one of our assistant coaches for a good 15 to 20 minutes.”
The incident was being investigated by administrators and faculty at Elkhorn, where the student body is 85% white.
“We have confirmed that some students near the sidelines yelled inappropriate/offensive comments toward some of the players, and a student or two from the student section,” school administrator Jason Tadlock told Channel 3000. “Our investigation is ongoing, and I would be happy to comment further once it is completed.”
Just two months ago, students at an Indiana high school basketball game chanted, “Build a wall! Build a wall!”
Trump is currently leading the race to capture the Republican nomination for president of the United States.
