The Kings have struggled to gain traction in talks with the Pistons on a trade for Josh Smith, according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press

Detroit and Sacramento were reported to have resumed trade discussions for Smith earlier this week, with the teams still seeking out a third team to facilitate the deal.

The Sacramento Kings made another run at Detroit Pistons forward Josh Smith during this week’s league meetings in Las Vegas, but they were rebuffed again.

Smith, 28, averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 77 games for the Pistons in 2013-14, the first year of a four-year, $54 million contract.

The 2004 first-round pick spent the first nine seasons of his career in Atlanta before signing with Detroit in free agency last June.
