Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has given Dirk Nowitzki permission to play for Germany in EuroBasket 2015, SportBilde.de reports.

The competition gives Germany an opportunity to qualify the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the NBA’s agreement with FIBA states that NBA teams can only prevent players from playing in FIBA events when the player has a “reasonable medical concern.”

Last year, Nowitzki did not play in EuroBasket, and Germany failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Nowitzki has not played for Germany since 2011.

The German nation team qualified for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing but failed to qualify for the 2012 games in London.
