Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum wore a "Je Suis Charlie" shirt during warmups before the Blazers' 99-83 win against the Miami Heat on Thursday in Portland.
The message, which translates to "I Am Charlie," is in tribute to the 12 victims who were killed by gunmen at Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper in France, on Wednesday.
The phrase "Je Suis Charlie" has been widely circulated since the attack, especially on social media.
Batum is a native of France and played in the French League before coming to the NBA. He is a member of the France national team and participated in the FIBA World Cup this past summer. Batum scored eight points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists in the victory.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored a game-high 24 points and added 12 rebounds for Portland.
