Report: Ricky Rubio (ankle) cleared to return vs. Dallas Mavericks

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has been cleared to play on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The 6-foot-4 point guard has not played since spraining his his left ankle during a Nov. 7 game against the Orlando Magic. The Timberwolves initially announced that Rubio was out indefinitely. By Monday, Rubio will have missed 43 games.

In his absence, Minnesota has dealt with injuries to multiple other players, including forward Nikola Pekovic and guard Kevin Martin. Minnesota will reportedly limit Rubio's minutes until after the All-Star break.

Over five games this season, Rubio averaged 9.4 points, 10.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game while posting a 15.66 player efficiency rating.In November, Minnesota signed Rubio to a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $55 million. 

At 8-38, the Timberwolves have the worst record in the Western Conference. Minnesota will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.
