Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officiating, the NBA announced on Saturday.

The fine comes after Paul made comments critical of referee Lauren Holtkamp following Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Paul characterized the technical foul he received during the game as "terrible" and said that "if that's the case, then this might not be for her."

When asked about his comments on Friday, Paul said "Last night was about a bad call."

On Friday, Lee Seeham, general counsel for the National Basketball Referees Association, addressed Paul's comments.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Seeham said Holtkamp's calls were "justified" and that "she belongs."

Meanwhile, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon tweeted on Friday that she did not believe Paul's comments "had anything to do with the refs [sic] gender."

The Clippers will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.
