Free agent shooting guard Ray Allen will not sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers if he decides to play this season, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports.

Allen, 39, has not announced whether he will play this season or retire. After playing with LeBron James for the last two seasons in Miami, Allen has been linked to the Cavaliers throughout this season. While he was rehabbing in Miami earlier in the season, James reportedly attempted to persuade Allen to join him in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers do not have an open roster spot to sign Allen and would have to release someone to make room for him. The Cavaliers acquired J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert last month, and they both play Allen's position.

Last week, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported there is a "growing belief" that Allen will not play this season. Allen averaged 9.6 points while shooting 37.5 percent on three pointers last season.

The Cavaliers have won four straight games and are the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. They play at the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
