Grizzlies' Mike Conley (facial injury) out for Game 4 vs. Blazers
Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley will miss Monday's Game 4 of the Western Conference opening-round playoffs after sustaining a facial injury in Saturday's Game 3 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Conley will return to Memphis for further evaluation, the team said. The injury is considered "serious," reports The Commercial Appeal's Ronald Tillery. TNT's Lewis Johnson reports Conley will have surgery to repair multiple facial fractures.
Conley sustained the injury with 3:04 remaining in the third quarter of Saturday's 115–109 Grizzlies win. After taking an inadvertent elbow to his head from Portland guard C.J. McCollum, Conley remained on the floor for several seconds as play continued on the opposite end of the court. He was eventually helped off the court by coaches and trainers as he held a towel over his face.
The win gave Memphis a 3–0 series lead. After the game, Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger did not have an update on Conley, who scored 14 points with four assists in 26 minutes.
Over the Grizzlies' three playoff games, Conley is second on the team with 16 points per game and third with 3.7 assists.
Game 4 of the series will tip off in Portland Monday at 10:30 p.m. ET on TNT.
