Report: Pelicans plan to offer Anthony Davis max extension
The New Orleans Pelicans plan to offer forward Anthony Davis a five-year contract extension worth the maximum possible value this off-season, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
Davis, 22, averaged 24.4 points this season, the fourth-most in the NBA, and led the league with 2.9 blocks per game. He helped led New Orleans to its first playoff appearance since 2011, Chris Paul's final season with the team.
Davis shined in the Pelicans' first-round loss to the Golden State Warriors. He averaged 31.5 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in four games, becoming one of only three players to average more than 30 points and 10 rebounds in his first four career playoff games.

The value of a potential max contract extension depends on where the NBA sets next season's salary cap but could exceed $140 million, Stein reports. New Orleans will not be able to negotiate with Davis until July 1. His current contract is set to expire after next season.
