Pelicans' Pondexter has offseason surgery

METAIRIE, La. (AP) New Orleans Pelicans forward Quincy Pondexter has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The Pelicans say the procedure, performed Wednesday, was successful, adding that they'll soon be able to project a timetable for Pondexter's return to ''basketball activities.''

New Orleans acquired the 6-foot-7 Pondexter from Memphis on Jan. 12 in a three-team deal that also involved Boston.

Pondexter, known more for his defense than his scoring, played in 75 games this season with Memphis and New Orleans, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23.9 minutes per game.

The 27-year-old Pondexter has played in the NBA since 2010, when he began his career in New Orleans after being acquired through a draft-day trade with Oklahoma City. The Pelicans traded Pondexter to Memphis in 2011.
