The Lakers have purchased a five-acre property in El Segundo to build a new team headquarters and practice facility.

Team president and co-owner Jeannie Buss announced the news Friday after the team received final approval from the city of El Segundo. The new facility will be located just down the street from the Toyota Sports Center, where the Lakers have practiced since 2000.

The Lakers' new corporate HQ includes the practice facility, a 750-seat exhibition court and office space on the property, which is part of the Elevon at Campus El Segundo development. The team will share the space with the D-League's Los Angeles D-Fenders, who will play their home games there. The building sits roughly a 40-minute drive from Staples Center.

“With its proximity to the airport and beaches, clean air, diverse businesses, and wonderful community, El Segundo is the perfect place for us to be,” said Buss in a statement. “We’ve been here for the past 15 years with great success, and we’re thrilled to secure the perfect spot to expand on that success and remain for many years as a part of this vibrant and growing area.”

Los Angeles has shared the Toyota Sports Center, which holds just one court, with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and the WNBA's Sparks, as well as the D-Fenders.
