The Dallas Mavericks and head coach Rick Carlisle are nearing an agreement on a five-year contract extension, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Carlisle, who has coached the Mavericks since 2008, is entering the last year of his four-year contract with the team. He is coming off a 50–32 season which saw Dallas exit in the first round of the playoffs.

He is just one of five active coaches who has won a championship, leading the team to an NBA title in 2011.

Only two coaches in the NBA have been tenured longer than Carlisle: San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, and Miami’s Erik Spoelstra.
